I have a 1971 convertible, haven't put a lot of time in it lately, but want to put in some new door panels. I see Corvette America is gone. Can somebody give me a good lead on what the best ones are? Much appreciated, and thanks in advance.
There are a number of places like Eckler's but they are expensive. I agree with doorgunner, as long as they are not too far gone. That's what I did to mine. I used a flexible bondo type product made to patch urethane bumpers. Sandable. Then got the matching dye from Eckler's. Mine had only minor flaws, though. I wanted to keep them because they had the manufacture date on them from Dec 1975 I want to say it was.
Last I heard, Al Knoch will recover your original fiberboard panels but I've no idea of cost compared to repro. Recovering my door cards is more attractive to me because I know they fit just like factory whereas repros likely do not.
I put some Corvette America ones, now Top Flight Automotive, on the black 77 in my avatar pic. I needed to egg a couple holes, etc. They weren't perfect. But in the end after some fitting, they looked OK. I guess good enough for a driver.
