I’m here starting to disassemble my dash to access the items you guys have lined out for me. Is there a way to get dashboard off without dropping the steering column and clusters?

Also you should know that I have added a stereo system, navigation, front and rear cameras and vintage air conditioning system.

You will need to remove the fasteners from dash cluster and the center cluster.
Just loosen the column bolts to there last few threads so it drops to that point.
I was able to both change my headlight switch and troubleshoot my delay timer that way.
I have a photo somewhere showing my hand in that gap holding the delay somewhere?

I managed to take my delay timer out by just lifting my dash as putting my hand in there.

Took a bit of time and patience but got it done with the dash still in the car

Did that resolve the problem?

Sure did.

it started with the light staying on every now and then and then it continually stayed on.

Took the delay thing out, connected the wires and now it comes on when I open the door and goes off when I close the door.

Don’t miss the delay :-)

Is the timer an oversized flasher? Yes it is a lot of red but that’s what she likes.

This is what I am seeing.

That is beautifully red.
I may be late but I learned that it is so easy to just remove the steering column that I will never pull the dash again until I remove it..... and I've pulled it at least a dozen times. Not worth cracking that delicate old fiberglass...... and YES, it was only the last time that I decided to remove the steering column. On previous removals I have cracked fiberglass and I have pretty much redone the whole backside in repairs...... not worth it.

That delay timer was the culprit. Thanks to everyone who responded to my dilemma. You folks definitely know what you’re talking about. This is the only corvette I’ll ever work on as the owner is a friend of mine and she loves red and this car. She has told me that her husband will go before the vette no question.
