OK, severely non-factory 1971 coupe. Bubba really messed it up when I got it. Tring to clean tons of things up.
Headlights were not even close to working when I got it, so I opted for an electric conversion, it works really well.
I however need a constant 12v power source. I remember on my other GM cars, ( 73 Nova, 75 Camaro, 79 Pickup ) there was a small block on the firewall, with 2 - 5/16 studs that had constant 12v power to it. I think it went to the starter.
Should I go this route, and connect one of these units?
The other thing I was contemplating was using the power wire that goes to the horn relay, good idea? Bad idea?
Ill need the same power for the electric fans as well.
I ran a Harley Davidson sized battery cable from the solenoid (positive battery cable) to a strip fuse panel mounted on the forward side of the passengers footwell.
Like this. Yes there is a cover for the box. Off of this I run headlight power, electric fans and a 100 amp strip fuse for my upgraded alternator also needed for electric fans and my EFI. EFI power has a separate fuse in the battery box. As that needs clean power and ground.
The junction you mentioned on the horn relay is similar to what you saw on other GM vehicles. The fuse box also has a terminal marked BAT. Probably depends on amperage requirements.
