Default Changing Dash Light Bulbs

Sharing tips on changing the dash light bulbs. I bought the entire light bulb kit from Zip a couple of years ago. Decided to not use LED; just my preference. I've finished the exterior lights last fall. It's hot and humid in Alabama now so a good day to tackle this job. Seriously, 42 year old plastic is brittle so doing this job in the heat is better than in the cold...for the plastic anyway.

My left turn signal dash light and e-brake light have been out for some time. Today I fixed those. I changed out several other bulbs while I was in there. Honestly an easy job, just take your time and don't force anything. The hardest part was pulling the old bulbs out and inserting the new ones in those tiny holes. Finally found a rubber hose that was just snug enough to work. I've included a picture of the tools I used. This was a great time to clean the plastic cover over the gauges; that's not a shadow in the picture. It was pretty hazy.

Also, you may note I have a 140 MPH speedo...the original owner had an 80 before getting an 82 and swapped out the 85 MPH speedo at 301 miles. I have the original speedo.

Consider testing each bulb before you install it. I had a few bad ones out of the box. You can take a line off the battery. Good luck. Jerry

This is cool information, and seems to match this YouTube video.

That said, the bulbs are held in individual bayonet mounts on the back of the gauge clusters. (78-82, and the 77 center gauges).

I'd like to watch that! I have a 77. And if you can replace any but the very lowest bulbs behind the speedo and tach. By reaching up from underneath. I REALLY want to watch this!
