Default calling ctmccloskey about calyx

C, how does this calyx work on manifolds that are the typical brown rusty OEMs? Does it clean them up and then coat them? Thanks

Calyx is a paste type substance, the way I have used the product before is to scrape any scale or rust with a wire brush, small brushes get in the nooks and crannies, then apply the caylx with a tooth brush (I have even used my finger to get in the tight spots) buff off any excess with a rag, start the car and get it up to operating temperature. its not a forever product, you should be able to get a season out of it before it needs doing again.
One thing i noticed is that it never fully cures, If you go back to the exhaust manifolds a week or two later, some of it will rub off on your hands.
Hope this helps

Here is what it looks like on old oem manifolds. It took me about 10 minutes each side. Prep was just spray with some brake cleaner.

I like it. Probably has about 3 hours of drive time on them and still looks like I just applied. I used a toothbrush and cue tips.

VS

good stuff

I've been using Calyx for over 30 years. EZPZ, lasts a really long time, great stuff.

you can get ceramic coated or paint them. At least with those two you won't look like the tin man when you work around the manifolds

Here is a good article outlining the application. As stated it provides good results without having to mess with/replace gaskets, bolts, or French locks.

But yes, ceramic coating is the way to go if you’re removing them from the car.

Well, if you don't want to spend $300 + to powder coat them & spend hours taking them on & off & hoping you don't break any bolts I say go for it. Calyx is $14. Painting is always a pain in the ***. It doesn't last as long as Calyx & there is a lot more prep work involved, to cover & tape / for over spray, & primers & multiple coats etc. I also think the Calyx has a great semi metal / factory cast color / look to it !
