Hi everyone! I have been chasing an oil pressure issue for about 3 years now on and off. Basically my gauge always reads 0. The car is a 1977 L48, with the sender near the oil pan, and one wire coming off of it. I have bought a new sender, tried it with, without, or partial teflon tape. Still always reads 0. If i ground the wire with a multimeter, it pings to max on the gauge, so i know the gauge is working and not stuck. What i cant figure out is did i get unlucky with a faulty sender? When the ignition on, and motor off. the wire reads 8.6 Volts, which isnt 12..? so could that be the issue? or is it not reading 12 because the engine isnt running? if the voltage is the issue im not sure how to go about fixing that. Does anyone have any opinions on how to fix this issue? i could spend another 50$ on another sender, but i figured it could be another issue? thanks!
I, also, have two senders that appear do nothing useful. I'm wondering if the connection fails inside the sender.
From the IH8MUD forum, try to ring it out with a multimeter. Also, what happens if you ground the case separately to the engine (with alligator clips, for example)?
