Hello everyone, I just joined Corvette Forum today after a few months of looking at this site for information and recommendations on getting my Vette back on the road.
I have a 1980 Vette that has been off the road since 1990 and am actively working on it with a friend of mine that has a shop with a lift which makes everything a lot easier.
This site has given me recommendations on cams, heads , side exhaust baffles and wheels/tires. I am currently looking for a electric headlight conversion kit, so please send me some ideas.
I am looking for a true plug and play type if there is one out there.
Thanks
Welcome to our forum. Pictures of your beautiful car are mandatory! You do know that right?
The best headlight door conversion kit is sold by member, Richard 454. If you have been lurking here for months I'm surprised you hadn't learnt that already.
I personally am extremely happy with the overall simplicity of the stock vacuum doors. And find them very reliable. That said. In recent years yes I did need to refurbish my system. But after 45 reliable years. That didn't seem out of hand to me. And yes they work perfectly again and hold vacuum like Fort Knox.
Best of luck with all your repairs.
Contact Richard if you wish to convert your headlight doors to electric, you won't be disappointed.
And do post up pictures of your car !
What's wrong with the headlights? Once that 45 year old tubing and worn parts are replaced, it's a reliable system that can work fine for decades (of course not with with 45 year old tubing that has gotten brittle and leaky). Or are you trying to clean up the engine compartment.
welcome to the forum as a member. years ago, i thought of electric replacement of the vacuum headlights on the 78 pace car i was putting back together again. while it might seem daunting, the vacuum system is pretty straight forward (particularly in cars without the addition of the "sliding wiper door" vacuum sub assembly). a complete, color coded lines replacement set is available from virtually every corvette parts supplier and it is really easy to follow by doing 1 line at a time starting at the intake manifold where everything originates. once corrected, it works well and is somewhat bullet proof as far as durability. should you be set on making the conversion, follow the directions of those who have already mentioned it and contact richard454 by PM here or at the various other ways mentioned.
Thanks for the advice. As a matter of fact, after seeing all the replies about using Richard454's conversion kit, I ordered the kit yesterday.
Thank You for your service. I too am a 26 year Army Veteran.
