Hi members,
I am new here and looking for honest help and advice. I have a 1970 Corvette in rough shape and need to sell it. It is currently on a trailer in Massachusetts, should I try to sell together? Is this the best place to list for sale? I honestly do not have a ton of info about the car, it was my husbands and he has passed. My bro in law was a vette specialist in his younger days and rebuilt over 20 trannys and gave me some info but he's not a huge help. Do I need a title for it? It will be a pain for me to apply for title if I don't need one and was told because of it's age that it is not needed, anyone know if that is true? I do not want to have people try to take advantage of the fact that I am a woman, sadly it is likely to happen. I really appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.
Ollie
Sorry for your loss.
I would Google "classic car auto appraiser". It may cost you a few bucks but you'll get a fair assessment and may be able advise you on how to sell it.
Sorry for your loss. As far as a title is concerned, call your local DMV and ask. Perhaps try their website first. Your car may or may not need a title. I moved from NY to Florida in 1987. My car did not have title, but Florida issued one to me upon registering the car. As far as the value of the car, I agree with the above, get a professional appraiser. Maybe start with contacting your local NCRS chapter and see if they can offer some help. National Corvette Restores Society. Jerry

Sorry for your loss...
If you need a title it shouldn't be a big deal.
Here in Nebraska you just fill out an application for duplicate certificate of title....$14 bucks.
If you can post some pics you might unload here...
If you only need a replacement title, that should be an easy thing to get in any state. But, if you or your husband never had a title for this car, then that's likely a major problem. The only cars exempt from title requirements in MA are ones older than 1980 and purchased before 11/26/90. MA has instructions online for obtaining a bonded title which is likely your best option unless the car is so rough that you're better off to forego the expense and aggravation of obtaining a title and just sell it as a parts car. The generally accepted wisdom among people who purchase cars with intent to license them for legal road use is that only a fool buys such a car without a title.
Yes this is a tough one.
First, So sorry to hear of your loss.
Second, any idea if your husband ever had a title? As mentioned above, a duplicate isn't a huge problem.
You say the car is in poor condition, just how poor?
if it's a parts car perhaps paper work isn't as big an issue. Seriously however, even for parts I personally would want a title.
Please post a few sharp pictures of the car from both sides, engine compartment from both sides, and interior, doors open from both sides. That will provide a lot of info to get started on what direction to go. If you have trouble uploading them, send me a private message, I'll provide my email address and I'll upload for you. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...newpm&u=613545
With national databases of vehicle registrations, I'd go with the other suggestions to contact your state's titling department (DMV). Your question is: does the VIN appear in their database and is the owner your husband's name? If it is listed, a duplicate title is simple and inexpensive but you'll likely have to submit a death certificate and other documentation.

I'm in MA if you need any specific help. I bought my car in Maine and I needed it to be registered there so i could register it in MA without a title. Depending on what it has available for parts is what it might be worth. You are better off selling it as one piece to sell quickly but you can get more for parts. It takes a lot longer and is a hassle.
Ollie, I'm sorry for your loss. I was going to suggest that a member in Mass would likely offer to help and, as I read through the comments, there is Scott (aka Rescue Rogers) offering up help. He is very knowledgeable and since he's offered to help I would take him up on it. Super nice forum member. And I'll bet there are others who will help too. Best, Paul
ollie, i'm very sorry for you loss. while it might be a bit of a pain, pictures would really help. there are some excellent suggestions in the posts above and i agree that you should take advantage of scott's (rescue ranger) offer of assistance. he is very knowledgeable and obviously within the state in question as far as titling etc.
If you can't post pics you can send them to me and I can post them
Thank you so much for your reply and offer to help. I'm not sure if this is going through as the correct way to reply but I didn't see any other way so here's hoping. I have a few pictures of the car outside. It is in Yarmouth in my sons yard and I'm on the other side of Boston but will see if he can send me some of the engine. My sister in law bought the car in Maine in late 80s and the title might actually still be in her name which would be great and alot easier so I'll find that out.Unfortunately we lost the folder with the title and all the other paperwork when we moved from Camp Lejuene after my husband's death. I would be happy to email you pictures and gladly accept any help and advice. I was thinking if there was a service or something that would deal with selling it for a percentage of the proceeds that might be a good option. Not sure if such a service exists 🤔 I'm told it has a truck engine and have a few other tidbits of info from bro inlaw who told me it's a parts car at best and adviced me in which parts might be able to sell. I can include what info I do have in the email with the pictures. I'm happy to compensate you for your help. Thank you very much.
V/R,
Ollie

hi, I'm in Mass, it is a 1970 bought in late 80s and have been told it is a " parts car at best " so Im thinking i shouldn't need a title , but my concern is the buyer would want one like you said. I'm confident it would take a genius and a miracle for this car to ever be driven again.Bettys going out in pieces.😜If it's not needed and can only sell as parts then I won't waste my time and money. DMV and I have never been friends.Thank you all again, I really appreciate all of you that have taken time to read and reply to my thread.Faith in humanity slowly being restored, one reply at a time. 😉
