Geeezzz, must be nice. And I worry about the price of spark plugs and oil!
Best of luck nonetheless! If you do actually build this you'll have to keep us all posted!
Engineering pays well like that sometimes. Especially when you know how to save for multiple years for stuff like that. That’s the big part. Saving for a LONG time.
The engine is the easy part, simple as choosing what you like as most will fit in the engine bay. The transmission and rear diff selection is key if you want to put any of the power down at 1,000hp+ and stay together.
You can build an awesome MK-4 big block that will easily put out 1000-1200 hp and still be street-able.
The only problem is getting that kind of hp/tq to the road, but if you have unlimited funds as you say, then it can be done.
There are several forum members who have done it, one being 427Hotrod who is well know on here for his top speed accomplishments.
My build, with a 496 will be scary quick.
If you really are planning this build, decide on your engine, hp/tq goals, then start looking into drive train components, frame modifications, suspension upgrades, braking systems, steering, etc before you purchase a single part.
You can easily get into $80,000 to $100,000 price range before you even get started.
It’s easy to get excited about big performance, but don’t forget about the interior, body work, paint, electrical, gauges, wiring, fuel lines, brake lines and coolant lines….
The list goes on and on.
I saw an early Gen II Camaro at a car show with a Cummins 4BT (turbo-diesel) engine installed in it. The car wasn't finished yet..... but there seemed to be always about 15 people standing around ooh-ing and aaah-ing at it the whole afternoon. Occasionally when foot traffic would get light, the owner would fire it up, rev it up a couple times (was pretty loud), let it idle there like a diesel for a bit, then the crowd would thicken up to where you couldn't get close to the engine compartment. I went over when the guy was at lunch and nobody was around. I have no idea who owned the car. I believe those engines weigh about 850-900 lbs all-in, bellhousing, pump and all ...but if the goal was to attract attention, that did it. I bet it would fry tires real well too!
