So in my 1977 C3 I recently changed the battery due to lose of power in the vehicle, with the new battery I’m able to crank the car up and it runs without issue but it seems as if a lot of electrical components in the car don’t work such as all the center gauges and speedometer or tachometer. The headlights will turn on but it will give a ringing noise the same as if the car was turned off and I put a mordern radio system In and it will turn on but only the display (not completely on) . There are no problems with driving it just seems like the car is in some “emergency power” mode
any one experience this and knows a solution
I have a 77, I've had it for many, many years now.
There is NO SUCH THING as a emergency power mode.
You will need to address your wiring issues one at a time.
Step 1. Purchase a Genuine GM Electrical Trouble shooting manual for your Corvette. This book is worth it's weight in gold! Breaks down every circuit. Explains how it should work and high lights a schematic of the individual circuit.
It's like Corvette wiring for Dummy's. Get this book!
Step 2.
Figure out which 77 you have, early or late.
Since your car is 50 years old, there are thousands of potential electrical problems just waiting to bite you. To be honest, your old car is like that beautiful 25 year old model that most of us wanted to marry … Very Very High Maintenance. Unless your last name is Gates or Cuban, buy the manuals and start learning how to make repairs yourself. There are many good vintage car mechanics, but if they are good, your car will sit your many weeks before they can even look at it. You certainly don’t want to take your 73 to just any mechanic. Good Luck.
