Cause of non-working power door locks, on a 80 Corvette (both) ?
I wrote this for Corvette Enthusiast some years ago but it remains relevant as you ask a question about lock repairs as many have before. Gummy actuators are one cause but the boots are a thin plastic that break down. Moisture enters along with corrosion and then the actuators stop working. I repaired my 78 door locks and found that wires to one of the switches frayed so I ended up with wire repairs and switch replacements. I also removed the linkage, cleaned and relube. There is a plastic shield that is suppose to protect the mechanics of the door lock but after years their protection barrier breaks down.
It's a nice project, but as poster points out get your parts, and cleaners lined up in advance. Hope this helps!
After removing the latches on my '80 for a good cleaning and lube, cleaning up the linkages and reinstalling everything....I still had inoperable power locks. Turns out the wiring plug at the driver side solenoid had a bent contact. Found some replacement pigtails on Rock Auto and the power locks work great now. Replacement harneses are available but more expensive. Those pigtail plugs cost a lot less.
Probably an actuator or wiring too an actuator. If you remove the door panel you can fairly easy test. I would probably test first before buying a replacement.
Less likely, but could be burnt out fuse. Or flaked-out switches too.
