The car is over 40 years old. Anything is possible. Are you experiencing any symptoms that may cause you to believe this?
Well, Its been sittin for years, driven little, but driven Repaced Cap, Wires and plugs, Starts hard (sometimes) and idles rough. I siphoned all the gas out and filled with 93. I put a container of Techron it it.. Seems to run good down the road, just bad idle to the point of wanting to stall'''
. I'm gonna have the converter removed nest week. Not sure if that is PART of the problem, but should run better without it? Any other ideas are welcome and thanks
Some cats from that era would clog up, the internals would come loose and restrict the exit. The symptoms were the opposite of what you are experiencing, car would idle OK but start to bog down when the rpms went up. My 80 Camaro did it and the dealer told me they were seeing it happen fairly often, fixed under warranty.
My '78 ran good above 2000RPM, but below ran horrible. Removed ALL the emissions junk. runs perfect now.
I saved all the parts in case someone would be foolish enough to want a "period correct" car. No emission requirements here due to age and collector car status.
MY objective was to have a driver, even though its a pretty/somewhat rare car.
I didn't buy it just to look at...but that's just ME. But I don't honestly understand the bubble wrap mentality...JMHO.
They do have scrap value. However, the sentiment is correct. Even if this isn't the cause of the current issue. The car will be better off without it.
I removed the clogged cat on my daughter;s '82 Firebird...V 6....4 speed...It ran so much stronger it would chirp the tires in 2nd and 3rd!
I put a Flow-Thru cat on it (for the Clean Air Folks) ....would still chirp tires in 1st and 2nd.
PLUS...no stinkin' eye burnin' exhaust fumes.
(Yep...I know...If you tune it right it doesn't stink)
I have a 78SA and many years ago I had my CC removed and had the shop install a set of aggressive mufflers and that was when things like could be done under the radar as the saying goes
However I did go one step further and purchased a new correct CC JIC the car goes to my daughter/grandson when I pass!!
