After 3 hours of searching the only modern compound 15" non race only tire i can find is the toyo proxes ra1 225/50/zr15 which is 3" shorter than the 225/60/15 everone runs.
Is anyone running these or will they look rediculous???
Are Avon Tyres race only? Everyone runs 255/60R15, or 225/70R15, both have an OD of 27", but Avon doesn't make that exact tire.
There are lots of options for 18" wheels!
Avon has a 245/60R15 and 275/55R15 in the CR6ZZ. Both are 26.7” tall. Now, as for the price, that is a different matter. $557 or $633 per a tire respectively.
I run the Avon's and absolutely love them. Best thing I ever did to the car to improve handling and braking. They are great on the street and despite 80 treadwear rating, are wearing well.
About the only choice we have for a D.O.T. legal real performance tire in 15 inch. I am one of those dinosaurs that love the look of the 15's.
I purchased a set of Vitour Galaxy 255 60 15 V-rated RWL tires for my 74. I’m very pleased with how they look, and hope to get the resto project finished and test out the new shoes.
I'm running those Galaxy's now for a little over a year. Huge improvement over the Coopers I used to run in the way of stickiness anyway. Much, much better in the wet as well.
My car sees several track days each year. I’ve been running Vitour for 3 years now . I also accumulate about 1000 miles of street driving annually , shows etc. I am very pleased with the Vitours. They get quite sticky after being warmed up at the track!
