I have numerous parts I was hoping to offer up this year.
Delays in my project have put me in a fowl mood and our UPS depot closed their customer service counter so I have to ship from the UPS retail stores.
I used to be able to ship anything under 50 lbs, anywhere in the USA from the depot for $12.99.
I recently shipped a similar part from the retail store and the cost was $62.00.
The retail stores are privately owned, they are allowed to attach their own fees which are not controlled by UPS.
All my unused parts are now going into the trash and to the landfill every Thursday.
Just a thought...might it make more sense for each receiver to pay the shipping rather than the sender? Reason being...the distance between the sender and receiver...and thus cost...should be on the receiver not the sender. Separately, I hope this thread never dies...I have lots to offer up but believe in holding on to just about everything until my build is done...assuming it ever is.

Reason: correct terminology and expound
the concept of the program was originally just as described "pay it forward" and if I remember correctly it was a kind of good will, holiday time kind of a white elephant type of deal. if you take a look at the original post it does mention that the donator should cover shipping (good will) but there could be exceptions if stated. in addition if you claimed something of use yourself you were supposed to offer something of yours up thereby basically exchanging the cost of shipping.

OldCarBum,
The UPS Store by me knows me by name. That said, I would never buy the freight from them in-house. They Mark it up except for the base ground rates. If you price the shipment online and purchase the freight it will get you a better rate. Also, you might try backing out of the web site and trying again.....this has worked for me in the past to get a better rate - NO LIE!
I also have an account with them but even then....you need to try it both ways. Sux but what do we do?
