Hello, Im a new owner of a 1980 Vette. I've been doing some tinkering fixing little things that need fixing. While working on the rear power antenna, I noticed there are no heat shields over the mufflers. Should there be heat shields over the rear mufflers or is what I have correct? The mufflers appear to be fairly new so I was curious if the prior owner didn't install as part of the exhaust swap.
Thanks

There is no heat shield for the antenna. I suppose the GM engineers thought there was enough seperation a heat shield was not needed.
There have never been any heat shields on mufflers on any C3. And frankly, I've never seen any on any car of any kind. But have seen them on certain Harley models.
Of course some auto mechanic types will likely chime in and point out some car that had heat shields on there mufflers. But the point here is. Your C3 never had any.
1980 Corvettes have a number of exhaust heat shields. Spark plug heat shields, catalytic converter heat shield, 2 front Y-pipe heat shields, and the single rear Y-pipe heat shield, differential heat shield. Nothing at the mufflers though.
Thanks for all the confirmations. All of my newer vehicles have heat shielding above the mufflers at the rear so that's the reason I wanted to ask. Thanks for confirming there was no shielding from the factory. In addition to asking here, did some research and found the following drawing that also confirms no heat shield. Thought I'd post here as it also contains the minimum clearance for the muffler to other parts.

Reason: add additional information
Since my '68 project is a basket case I'm not concerned about originality.
I fabricate aluminum heat shields wherever my infrared gun tells me (it's an aviation thing)...
over mufflers & exhaust pipes/next to alternator/ over starter.
Sure...it's probably overkill..but I was accused of that in Nam, also
