My dad bought it new in California, immediately swapped the engine with one from a 69’ vette (350hp/400tq) and made it illegal to drive. He had it hot smogged for years before the guy was arrested for hot smogging cars.. then it sat. And sat. And sat. My dad finally sold it to the mailman when I was 16. Fast forward 13 years and my dad died of leukemia. That night I was sitting in his room and saw a pinhole camera picture of the vette, my sister took in high school, sitting on his dresser. I told my wife I was getting that car back!
Thankfully the mailman still worked at the same post office because the next day as I was driving my family back to Utah I stopped at the post office and left him a note explaining who I was and inquiring about the car. He called me the following day telling me the car had been sitting in storage untouched since he bought it. I drove back to California a month later and bought it back.
I know the 77’ isn’t the most desirable C3, and I couldn’t care less. I have 6 kids of my own so I don’t have the time or money to restore it right now. But I plan to slowly complete a restomod and make it a capable daily driver by today’s standards.

My condolences on the loss of your father.
Great story. Congrats on being able to buy the car and best of luck with your future plans to modify and restore the car. I am moving this thread to the C3 General section where other C3 owners can enjoy the history of the car.
Welcome and best wishes on your project as you go forward with it. Would be very cool to make it nice and pass it to one of yours. I like the rims he put on there. Should be a real looker when you get it done!

The problem with that is I have 6 kids… so instead I’ve told them all to bury me in the car 😂
Great family story and history. You will have fun working on it and some frustrations, but the very knowledgeable people on this forum are here to help! Keep us updated on your progress.
Welcome to the forum. I believe the 77's are the very best year! But I may be biased.
I've had mine for a very long time now. One day my Son and grandson will be driving her.
My old wreck.
