Default Throttle Linkage Question

I am trying to convert from a double pumper Holley carb to a more street friendly Edelbrock. I did not install the cable, but it appears to be an aftermarket such as probably a Lokar? The mounting bracket

is a Lokar and is meant to go with this carb according to Summit. Will this cable work and how do I go about fitting it thru the hole in the bracket?

I had to cut a notch into the bracket hole just wide enough for the steel cable to fit into. Then I put the retainer clip onto the cable housing to hold it in place.
I also bent the bracket just enough to have a straight line to the carb pivot arm.

I am also an owner of a 1968 BB Convertible Corvette and I have had my share of issues with carburetors. My engine came with a Quadrajet on it and it leaked gasoline badly so I pulled it and the intake manifold off and replaced it with a Holley 750 Double pumper. Then I wanted a bit more so I started getting custom carburetors made for my 427.

The very BEST overall Carburetor I have ever purchased was an 850 H.O. carburetor from A.E.D. down near Richmond, Virginia. I spoke with the engine tech and he helped me get a carburetor just perfect for my 427 and it gave me the fastest MPH in a measured run. The AED people take bare Holley Castings and they do all the machining "in-house" and the results are a very near perfect carburetor and then they set it up for your engine specifications. After it came in I bolted it on and it started right up and ran great, a few runs later and there were no jetting changes needed for this carburetor as they had calculated/guessed very accurately.

The owner of AED answered the phone one time and he was great and a wealth of information. He suggested that if my carburetor was not just "perfect" then he would bring my C3 down to his shop and finish setting it up on a dyno. I was bummed because the carburetor worked so well that I had no complaints. Over the years the folks at AED have really helped me out and if you ever need a carburetor I would recommend them very highly as they know carburetors and how to get the very best out of them.

Being who I am, I converted my engine to run with a Holley Stealth Sniper EFI system and it does everything for me. I chose this particular system because I wanted the original four barrel orientation and not a throttle body turned 90* on top of the intake. Under my hood it is hard to see that the engine is fuel injected unless you notice the fuel pressure gauge showing 59 psi. That will change when I install a multi-port fuel injection system with a Holley Terminator EFI system controller. The primary reason is that my L88 hood is tight with the Sniper on top an Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake manifold and the best solution is another shorter intake manifold so why stop halfway? A "dry" EFI intake is simpler and would be pre-drilled for the injectors and would make the swap much easier with a dry throttle body. This would keep the gasoline inside the system and less risk of a fire overall.

I have the following carburetors in my collection:
750 cfm Highly modified AVANTI Carburetor based on Holley Double Pumper
750 Edelbrock with electric choke. This carburetor allowed me to start in the colder months as none of my other carburetors has a choke tower
850 Holley Double pumper with electric choke provisions to help start, still no choke tower so no choke blades
850 Speed Demon Barry Grant
850 H.O. from A.E.D. Carburetor is built with Holley castings

At one point or another each one of these carburetors has seen action on my 427. The Speed Demon has less than 25 hours of running on it. I then moved on to AED so all the other carbs were put on the shelf after they were cleaned out and cleaned. My original quadrajet was from a 1969 Corvette and I traded the carburetor and intake manifold for parts that I needed for my C3.

I found a set screw that releases the end parts. Now I need a jam nut to put on the threaded end to trap it on the bracket. Problem is I am having no luck figuring out what size jam nut. I have tried a 5/16-18, 5/16-24 and even an 8mm. Al will start but quickly hang up. I can chase it out with a die but I need to know what the thread is before I ruin it. Anyone have a Mr. Gasket 5657 Universal Throttle Cable to check that thread for me?

do you have a tape and die set. THere sould be a thread gauge in there to give you the correct pitch, then measure the diameter....

Out of curiosity, what did you not like about your double pumper?
