Default K&N filter does not fit...

Hi everyone

About a week ago I bought a new K&N filter to replace the paper one that was on the carb.
I received the filter, but the moment I checked it didn't fit... far from...

It was the E-1500, but it's way too small. I think this was meant for the 1973-1976 with the cowl induction system.

I https://www.summitracing.com/parts/k...eIlurxHx6KM4h-

I searched the Summit website again and it seemùs the right one should be:
E-1650
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/k...make/chevrolet

Just to be sure. Can anyone confirm if this is the right filter for the 14" Proform chrome open element?

The K&N E-1650 is the correct replacement element for the stock 65-72 Corvette 14" open element air cleaner, the original Delco number was A212C. The air cleaner on the engine pictured is an aftermarket part, not an OEM Chevrolet unit so I can't say for sure if the K&N E-1650 element will work on it, but if it helps I believe the dimensions of the E-1650 are 12" ID, 14" OD & 3" height.

Not only does it not fit, but {IMO} you wasted money buying a filter that would make NO improvement in performance. Return it to the store that sold it to you (and indicated that it would fit your car) for a refund and buy a good quality paper filter.

I'd have to agree, although a unpopular opinion. The K&N's do flow more air than a paper filter. But also much more dirt!
The real issue is. Your engine can only pull just so much air. That 14×3 paper filter that actually filters. Can flow more air than your engine can suck. So putting on a cotton filter that flows much more dirt and yes more air. Well, it's your car.

I will contact the seller to make a switch with the correct filter.
My paper filter was new but is already very dirty (with a lot of grey and black areas).

I want to go for the K&N washable type because of the price of a 'regular OEM' filter here in Belgium.
Regular: 35-65 € (depending on the quality and brand)
K&N: 84 €

And also: I already have the oil and cleaning product for it (because of my motorcycle filter that's also of K&N).

If you have one on your motorcycle, then you already know how much dirt you get in your throttle body. And you actually want to put on on your Vette?

Well I've looked at the filter a couple of times, and it seems okay. Not dirty at all.
I use it because the original is very bad quality.

If you will not be driving in a dusty environment, It may not be a big issue. But, my preference would be to protect the engine before saving a few buck$. Whichever way you go, enjoy the ride....

For those who may have been to Belgium.
It's really very wet and humid here all year round.
Wet winters and humid summers.
