Default First 82 question, more to come

I recently purchased this 82 corvette, so far very happy with my purchase... 16k original documented miles, good prior family ownership and feel I purchased it right, I plan to keep as a nice cruiser, cosmetically in excellent shape and runs and drives great.
a few issues I'm gonna enjoy working on but have a question

, I received the car late Saturday and flew out early Monday for work so only played with the car a bit on Sunday.
it appears no matter how long the car runs both the coolant temp gauge and the oil temp gauge only go so far... coolant temp goes to about 125 degrees and oil temp goes just above 100 degrees and no movement from there and no visual fluctuation, when I turn the key on and off I can see them pulse but again they both don't move past those points... is there something that would effect both gauges at the same time, gauge fuse is fine and can't imagine they both have separate issues so is there something common possibly effecting them both?

Robert.....

I can't answer your question. But, I gotta say, I love red interiors. That car you have is spectacular, and I am happy you found the one. That interior reminds me of a Spanish brothel in Malaga that I once spent a few days in. Love it !!

that's funny... thanks, I know some say red on red is too much red but I've always loved that combination and wanted one for a long time... I knew my next purchase was gonna have a red interior... the red outside is a bonus for me, thank you again

First, congratulations! That car is awesome! Now I know why you were willing to risk it with the CFI!

"Captain Obvious" question coming: Are you certain the car is getting up to temperature? Oil temp always takes what seems like a very long time and if you had thermostat issue I imagine it would take even longer.

The other thing is that I could see corrosion on the circuit board causing an issue like that since they are both on the same 12v power. Are the fuel and voltmeter gauges working OK?

My guess would be the circuit board as well, I had a friend with that same issue and a new board fixed it.

I agree with the others, red interiors are the best. 17,000 mile 46 year old red interior on mine.

Just to pile on with the circuit board suggestion. I've replaced a few. I found solder on one tab, that had bent a terminal in the mating connector such that it no longer made contact on the new circuit board. Easy fix with pliers, but look at both sides.

thanks Bill, I can't imagine its not getting to full operating temp, the car was running for about 10-15 mins while i was talking with the transport driver and the next day the same... I let the car run for again a good 10-15 mins in my garage and temp didn't move past those points not fluctuated... both the 80 you now have and the pace car would get up to about 190-200ish fairly quickly and would be pretty active in that range, I will give it some better testing when I get home, thanks again and hope all is well.

thanks Irvan, the C3 aluminum wheels are one of the best looking factory wheels IMHO.
the moment I made the deal on the car I opened marketplace and these wheels were posted 10 minutes earlier less than 10 minutes from where I was... it was a sign I picked the right car.

Real nice car, good luck with it...

Probably don't have to say this but drive the car for 15-30 minutes before doing anything. You appear to have an aftermarket radiator and you never know if anything else was done, thermostat and etc. My 82 is very cold blooded, even with a crate engine, the oil temp is always behind the water temp and it takes quite awhile to reach full operating temp, 200 in the summer.

Run it around for half an hour and if it's still low then check the thermostat housing and lower hose with an IR heat gun. That should tell the story before you start worrying about other things...

I agree with Pro. My 82CE is cold blooded and takes 20-30 minutes to getbto 180 degrees and oil temp always lags behind coolant temp. Nice car and know you will enjoy it!

I suspect that the temp sending units are not correct for the car....or, if the gauges required resistors on the terminals, they are defective or missing. Just some possibilities. You should know that, even if the car does NOT have a thermostat installed, the engine will [eventually] warm up to its stabilized operating temperature. So a missing thermostat is NOT your problem.
