Default Another power antenna question?

The mast cable is broken in the antenna in an 81 and I see several part numbers for the mast, are there more than one part number for the mast tube? I've got 22110243 another number 22143459. Thanks for any info. And I did a search, pulled up everything but power antenna.

The different numbers usually have to do with "Mast & Cable", "Cable Only" or the "CB option" (longer mast/cable). If your stainless mast is good, and your car's antenna is an original GM antenna, all you probably need is the replacement cable. Have you taken your antenna apart? See what the problem is?

Normally the metal 'hook' on the bottom of the antenna cable breaks off. There a wire inside the plastic antenna 'cable', ...is what they call it. Water can get inside the antenna assembly, sit at the bottom of the antenna spool area. Any cracks in the plastic cable (which eventually occur) lead to corrosion of that wire, and it eventually breaks & separates from the tang which connects to the spool (spool won't pull antenna down). When it breaks the spool will try too wind down and just spin...and not pull the antenna down. Other issues can occur too. Sometimes the relay gets flaky. Sometimes the spool can crack. Might want to disassemble and verify. If your actual stainless steel 'mast' is straight and good...then it's probably a broken cable inside. Not too difficult to repair if you have decent DIY skills (a 3rd hand is kind of nice). Drill out the rivets and use small hardware store bolts to put it back together.

The antenna cable for a 92-93 DeVille is the same as the factory original Corvette antenna (assuming your antenna is original). GM used the same antenna in Buicks and some other cars into the 90's. Search around you might find a cheaper cable for a DeVille or Roadmaster application, than a C3. (assuming your car doesn't have the CB antenna). Back in the day I repaired a lot of Cadillac power antennas. Those replacement cables used to be real cheap. I used to buy them by the 3-pack...lol. I still have a couple left (not for sale). On the replacement 'cable' you see in the pictures, the top SS rod is threaded and you transfer the top ferrel from the old antenna to the new cable. So the SS rod you see is the actual 'new' top piece of your antenna mast (to push the rest up, or bring it down). You'll see when you get into the job.

I don't know if that answers your questions or not. But before you order one you might want to verify the cable is broken. If the antenna motor wants to run-on...(and on)..then it's probably the cable.

I got the antenna apart and the cable was broken but the motor wasn't running with the radio on,I've repaired these in the past and the motor should run continuously with a broken mast. Once I got everything apart I tested the motor and it works. I just bought this car so I'm fixing things. I doubt there's a seperate fuse for the antenna, where is the antenna relay? For some reason I can't get the antenna mast out of the tube, should it just pull out or is there something holding in in? Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated.
Just checked for the really......and it's missing. That's good in the sense I know everything is in order. Now just need to order a relay.

On the other (later) car's I've done, the antenna motor would run for a while, then eventually shut off. Honestly I forget about the 81 vettes. See if there's power to the wire in the back.

IDK on the mast pull-out. It's been almost 20 years. Look it over and it should become apparent. Avoid forcing things ...obviously. Maybe there's a Y/T video on Delco antenna's. Or even any power antenna. Many are similar in concept.

Thank you for your knowledge on this ...
I have the CB application and the motor runs on and on ... it's a GM original brand new but must have gotten brittle. I just had my installer put the whole system in and when we turned it on the antenna went up about six inches then just kept spinning.
I don't have the skill to tackle it but will search it out ...
What should I get to replace it?
Would you be so kind as to email me wayne.sidey@aol.com

Thank you for your input and knowledge ...
There is a company called "The antenna Source" and has aftermarket cables for most applications.
The GM AC Delco AM FM CB being one of them!
