Default Quick carpet question 1970

Hi all,

I have the front set of carpet pieces from Al Knock, ordered without padding. But what was in there had padding. I was unaware. Did the factory carpet have any padding at all or was it simply laid down on the fiberglass? I can use the old padding as it is in good shape and not part of the damaged area.

The factory installed a jute pad.

The carpet I bought from Auto Custom Carpets for my 69 came with the jute pad.

Al Knoch sells the pad.

OK, thanks. That’s what I thought. I can reuse the jute no problem.

But I have to say the fit of the Al Knoch carpet piece so far is disappointing. I know they are the best but they shorted me on this piece in the rear and console side.

Call them. I have always found them responsive to issues.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to call. The driver side doesn't have the pad over the high beam switch. I think they rushed my order or something. This is now both sides and I can't accept without the dimmer switch pad. I'm sure they will be helpful.

Take a little piece of carpeting, say maybe 1" by 1", and superglue it into the "bald" spot. No one will notice.

Installing my last carpet, I accidentally trimmed off too much. My repair was a strip of carpet about 1" by 6" inches or so, and it was superglued. My fix is not very obvious.

They are sending replay. I could have lived with the passenger side but the driver missing the switch pad is a judging issue. I’m reasonably happy. Not looking forward to doing the job again but surely it will go much faster next time.

The factory used some jute padding. But it also had some tar-soaked cardboard pieces in specific locations to dampen high-frequency road noises. You can't get them anywhere, AFAIK.

If you can find some bulk jute padding (carpet store, internet, etc), that would be the way to go to save some money. Or spend $$$ to buy the pre-cut stuff.

Glad to hear you are getting a replacement. That’s great/honorable customer service. Rare these days. I too would not accept the dimmer switch deal. The tiny bald spot, I would either get crazy with a black sharpie, or tape/mask everything around the bald spot and shoot with black dye. Nobody would ever know. Wish the hair on my head was so easy to deal with as that. BUT WAIT, MAYBE IT IS!?!?!
