Default Transporting from WA to BC...

Hey. Its been a while. I'm still here.

Have a little issue i have to solve here that maybe someone here can help me with. This is the only car forum i'm on these days.

I still have a 68 AMX sitting down below the border in Washington, 40-50 miles from Seattle (its a 150 mile drive to my house). I have the papers (WA registration), and its all legit. Its a parts car (that i'm going to build), but all put together... more or less. I need to get it home. I have no passport, cannot fly, or cross a border. I have no friends with passports or trailers. I live 20 minutes North ov the closest crossing.

Who can i pay to both get the car and deliver it to my house? It will need to be brokered. I was told that i am not even allowed to do that anymore, that it has to be an actual broker. Yeah, i can google this (and i have) but was wondering if anyone here has done this, or does this, and/or knows a good guy, or perhaps even a better way. I just want this goddamn thing home.

Bonus question, is all this new tariff bullshit going to affect this?

Great story if you follow the link. Glad there was a positive outcome. Others might not be so lucky.

I literally (no bullshit) paid a $1000 US for this thing. I dont want this to turn into a big purchase. I have about a grand, tops, to bring this thing home, a whopping 150 miles.

Can typical towing company with a roll back tow truck bring a car across the border as long the paper work is in order? Seems to me it could be done for much less than $1000?

Sounds like you will be crossing in Blaine. Why not just drive down with a pick up and trailer. Try to enter and see what they say. If things go south, take the car to a storage locker, just like in the link above. Sorry missed the I don't have a trailer or passport. you need someone on your side of the border who can go across and bring it back. I would look in B.C

I am down to one friend who still has a truck, trailer and passport, and while he's a great guy, he's sketchy-looking as ****, and his rig reeks ov pot, and god knows what else. Ten foot pole...

I'd be crossing in Sumas. With the political climate what it is right now, i'd not be going down myself even with a passport. Sadly, someone else has to do this for me.

Any tow truck could do it. I have the papers, but the work has not been done. That has to be done by a broker now. Thats probably the bulk ov the cost. A 150 mile tow wouldn't normally cost anywhere near that.

I have used it twice. Once for a car purchase in Florida and once for car trailer to take my Corvette to the track that was in North Carolina.

you need a bill of sale
And the title
bill of sale must reflect condition of car

you need to file with Canada customs to make sure the car is not stolen or claims against it as it takes 3 days to clear

once cleared you show what was paid via ad or reference to back up what you paid

pay the taxes as parts car

haul it home

or call Canada customs to get the exact answers

I think you just answered your own question.. " but I can't do it"... Most of us who have purchased vehicles outside of out home country have done it ourselves. with properly completed papers,, including your own passport,, its a fairly simple process. I have done it. .
.
As for you, I believe your S O L on this one.
Just my thoughts..

Yeah, simple if you have money. I dont. Its a $1000 car, and i dont want it to cost more, or much more than that to own it. I have deadlifted 700lbs, and could probably pull 500lbs cold, right here, right now, an hour before my bedtime without a warm-up... Its a fairly simple process. Right? If you asked me how to do that, i could easily tell you how. I would listen to what you said about your situation, your capacity. Unless you want to fast-track, and pay for my passport, rent me a truck and trailer, then no, its not so simple.

And further, as i have stated, many times here, i am told that i can no longer legally broker a car myself. That i have to pay a broker to do it. Was i lied to? When's the last time you did this? It was simple 10 years ago, legally. Now?

I used a broker. They did all paperwork. I took paperwork,, picked up my vehicle,, at the boarder I provided paperwork. They did their part. Then I was on my way home.
.
Thats the best way to handle it. Otherwise you must pay whatever the cost to have an expert do it for you.

..I wish you the best....

i know you are looking for a how..... but just don't do it at all.. ain't worth the grief.
you are relying on the faith of the people you hire and the people they interact with and how far they get their jollies on their power trip.
there are a hundred laws that they can use against you, and a hundred other excuses or made up laws they can use to milk you out of you paying more.
these people have the power to keep your car hostage. especially older cars that are going to pollute their precious air.
there is a high probability of this turning into a nightmare.
I don't cross the border unless I am in a tour group... if you read the fine print, the border agents can take your wedding rings from you if you don't show proof of purchase. we leave our wedding rings at home and take nothing of value across the border. cloths and toothbrush and a charge card.. that's it..
you can't take a fruit basket across the border without the threat of jail...
Thats why I retired.. I spent 80% of my time asking permission, and 20% of my time doing real work. This is the same thing...
IMHO

And that was BEFORE Trump went and turned everyone against each other. ****.

Thing is... i own the car. Its mine. I'm not looking to make a purchase here, i bought it some time ago. I just need to get it home. I'd just give the guy his money back, but there is nothing even REMOTELY close to this for the price here. This $1000 turd (that i LIKE, thats PERFECT what what i want to build) would cost 6K here. If it costs me 3K all done i'd still be ahead. But... i have $1000 to do this. Its 150 miles... SOMEONE'S gotta know something....

Thats what i need, what i'm asking. I need a broker. I'm guessing that no one here knows a solid one. I hate to just google and phone... because then its full retail and still a risk.

Read this completely. It should answer your questions. It really is a easy process for Canada's.
