This is a question,I’m pretty sure of the answer but,I’m just assuming,a friend of mine has a 1977 corvette,it’s been sitting over 15 years, and he inherited a 1966 Malibu and it doesn’t have disc brakes on it,he wants to know if the disc brakes from his 1977 corvette would work on the 1966 Malibu,I told him No,but wanted to make sure thanks.
67-68 chevelles did use a 4 piston caliper similar to 65-82 corvettes. But the spindles will not interchange 69-72 a body disk brakes are easy enough to source
A Hemmings interchange book will tell you which GM cars have interchangeable parts that will work for your application. I put 4 piston dics brakes on front my 68 GTO convertible that came off a larger Pontiac model if memory serves. Most salvage yards have those books for cross reference purposes.
Even if they did fit I would go with some other calipers. C3 calipers suffer from core design "flaws...let's call it" which other newer calipers don't. So,, other calipers would be a better idea. Plus they weigh a ton each..
For the Chevelle I would go with C5 bakes all around. Caliper/pads/brake lines are available at many part stores. I'm sure some one is selling parts for both the front and the back.
My go to guy for brake upgrades is Tobin at Kore3.com
No. But MANY vintage car parts vendors sell kits to upgrade Chevelle/Malibu brakes from drum to discs (2- wheel or 4-wheel). If he's looking to do this "on the cheap", remind him that his and his passenger's LIVES depend on what he installs for brakes.
P.S. If he doesn't drive the car "hard" or race it, there is nothing wrong with installing new, good quality brake shoes on the drum brake car.
