Good morning! I recently bought a 75 and the passenger mirror was flopping around. I bought a new mirror, plate, gasket and nuts. When I removed the old one, I found that the front hole was much bigger than the rear (approx 12mm). Tried to buy a larger wellnut/bolt but it didn’t hold due to the wellnut not expanding within the hole. Instead, it pushed the plate out. The rear wellnut is bubbaed and glued into place but it’s solid. Since I’m going to have to redo the fiberglass at some point anyway, I’m thinking of using a stainless steel jack nut to hold that front one in place. Thoughts?
Several ways to accomplish this. For a good temporary fix,, until you repair the fiberglass,, you could remove the interior panel to gain some access. Use a large "Fender Washer " or any size larger than the hole and use the new fasteners you now have. Use some sort of adhesive to help you keep the washer in place while attaching the mirror.
Likely the least amount of effort to accomplish this.. IMHO. .
