Default Another, Where does this go? question…

1970 454, manual, non A/C and not running the TCS. Just finished rebuilding the top end and everything works great aside from the wipers. But I think that’s a separate issue, possibly the wiper motor. Anyway, I noticed this errant hose just hanging off of the firewall and have no idea where it connects to. It’s a very small diameter hose, no color stripe on it and goes through a single grommet in the firewall pretty much behind where the gauge cluster sits. Any ideas? Headlights work perfectly so I don’t think it’s related to that.

Your small hose is part of the heater controls from the shift console. It should T into the yellow main vacuum hose. The only source I ever found for the proper T-fitting is from Dr. Rebuild.

(In this pic, I pulled it out from under the hood bumper.)

Perfect, thank you. I replaced all of the vacuum lines when I rebuilt the car so I know I had everything where it was supposed to be. It must have just come undone while I was working in there recently.

@dkwrnr In his post of the diagram, he stated “Screenshot of ‘72 AIM”. Assembly Instruction Manual(s) are available for various years and are commonly used to see where stuff goes, or is supposed to go on these old cars.

There are two small black hoses issuing from the far right side of the windshield wiper door compartment. One black hose connects an output port of the windshield washer pump to the right windshield wiper spritzer. The other black hose is associated with the vacuum shut off switch that detects the position of the windshield wipers. This vacuum switch has three hoses connected to it: a red, a white, and a black. This black hose exits the firewall through a grommet and is no connected to anything......it is basically connect to the atmosphere. Both black hoses discussed here exit the firewall. One is again, on purpose, not connected to anything.

I think both. If you search online for your year, I have seen digitally delivered versions, cd"s for a computer....
On ebay (sew link below for a well priced used one) you can find them in the printed versions. I would prefer printed as you can carry it out to the garage and flip pages vs carting your laptop or ipad out there. On ebay, search “1980 Corvette assembly manual”.

Additional “pro tip”: This forum’s search function is well known to be a little lacking. Some of us have figured out a much, MUCH better way to quickly find posts/threads that are relevant to what we are seeking here. Go to Google. Whatever you want to search for, add “Corvette Forum” at the end. For example, if you wanted to replace your gauges, Google search “Replace gauges 1980 Corvette Forum”. Also, youtube has been a great source for info for me. Some really well done, very informative videos being done these days. Best wishes!
