I have a 72, my wipers only come on when I turn the **** under the dash. I have the electric wiper door opener, not vacuum, that works when I use the wiper switch at top of dash. The wipers do not operate with the normal wiper switch, only when I turn the ****. Any thoughts?
The vacuum-solenoid switch mounted behind the tachometer and the wiper 'park' switch mounted below the right side wiper blade are the two components most often associated with your symptoms.

Did you install the electric door openner? Do you know who made the system for your car.....
It sounds like your switch is bad or there is a wire crossed that your motor is always on. The **** under the dash is there to shut off the motor with the wipers on the glass so you can change the blades.... If you are controlling the motor with it, then there is either a problem with the wiring installation of the electric door controller which should be wired into the motor control or the wiper switch itself is bad and is stuck on....does the wiper switch have any sped control?

On a 68 the wiper switch alters the ground circuit, I dont know if the 70's series switches operate that way but you may want to make sure the wiper switch has a ground....Im thinking that the wiper door motor may be giving the wiper motor a ground or somoething. I know that if the console housing is cracked that there is a grounding issue to the switch usually
