Very cool. A lot of history to go with the car is also very cool. Always loved the Rockford Files….that was prime time on one of three tv channels we got…

Can't afford this but I always figured a Rockford Firebird would be pretty cool.
It is certainly a good looking race car.
The bidding ceiling is a guess. Depends on who wants it and whether it's a keeper for a collection.
I could see someone like a Rick Hendrick paying 500K. It would look good next to the Owens Corning #12 Corvette.

Wonder what the reason is for the difference in all the decals on the car from then to current resto ? One photo shows a good year diamond over the gills plus others & one over the rear tire, but not in the latest resto pics & different pipes too?? What's the "REAL DEAL" ??
Anybody remember Dave Herlinger who owned Corvette Repair in Mountain View California? He was my (and others) go-to-guy for mechanicals. He said his brother lost the car to an ex-wife and was heartbroken about it.
Some sources say Dave did the restoration although I don't know if it is the current look. He also owned another Garner car which had been majorly f'd up in my opinion. Don't know what happened to that one.
Anyway the number 44 car did not sell at $755K which is not a surprise.
When I was a kid, everybody said my pops looked like he coulda been James Garner. Forward years later to my 1st ‘Vette, and it was one’s like this one that were a major inspiration for how I built and styled my ‘69. That’s one sweet ride. I’d be tempted to flog it though.
Personally I'm not surprised that it didn't sell at $755,000. I think this same car sold at auction about 10-12 years ago for somewhere around $750,000.
