What are the components needed to install the underbody heatshield metal panels and insulation? January 1968 build date, coupe. Also, any good source or video for installation instructions or guidance.

I was looking at a thread on the for sale/WTB section on this the other day:

WTB/FS Post

And that got me thinking about them in more detail (specifically the differences in these and those on my '72) and I found this post:

The steel panels and insulation blankets are for sale at the Corvette vendors last time I looked. I'd look at ZIP and Corvette Central.

The 68 and 69 panels/insulation system don't appear to be continued on for 1970 and following years. Don't know why, seems very useful. I plan to install them on my 70.

A great way to get rid of heat into the driver's compartment is to install the 1969 factory sidepipe option. With the factory exhaust, your right foot on the gas pedal, is only a few scant inches from the exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe, at this location, is extremely hot from fresh exhaust gases. Protection for your right foot consists of the carpet, the underlying mat, maybe the 1/8 inch thickness fiberglass tranny panel, the transmission tunnel shroud/insulation and a couple or so inches of air. Add the factory insulation pad for 68 and 69 as applicable. This really isn't much protection for your right foot. Sidepipes get rid of this heat source entirely.

The factory sidepipe option is now pretty pricey. But you can offset this cost from the savings of not buying an expensive stereo system. Exhaust noise.
