I found a thread from 9 yrs ago where somebody said that the VIN number of the frame is not the complete VIN as seen on the A-pillar behind the windshield. Is this correct?
As you can see the number in the A pillar is
194671S121630 whereas on the frame itself the last three digits are not there.
Also, I found this number behind the drivers side front weel, which is not the usual location I was told.
Does anyone have any information about these? I want to get this car back on the road, but I am not sure if this will pass the inspection standards, as those are very strict here in Belgium.
VIN on frame should be on the top side of the frame. The actual frame. Behind rear wheel, left side. Just in front of the number 4 body mount. The VIN is short forward digits. Not the last 6, or short VIN.
There is a partial VIN stamped on the frame in two locations, one, as mentioned, near the #4L body mount and another forward of the #3L mount. Both are truncated, shortened by the omission of the first 5 characters of the full VIN. Due to access and rust, these are not easily seen.
This is the stamp's location on the left side frame rail as seen with a small mirror.
It's just forward of the #4 body mount.
Often the surface needs to be 'cleaned in order to see the stamp.
