Basically, all your troubles began when you switched from a Breaker-Point IGN System to a HEI IGN system?
The solenoid terminal post marked "R" is involved with the older models, but not the newer "75? 76? with HEI.
And in the photo, I still don't see an extra GRD wire, cable or strap to the frame.
And, does your model year need the forward bracket starter to block also? They are usually missing.
Wherever you did buy starters, stop.
