Default New ignition Switch Issue

Need a little help. I have a new ignition switch, however my stock ignition lock cyclinder won't fit? Has anybody run into this with an early 68?

Here are the insides and no matter how I do it, it just won't go in. I can easily put it back in the old one, but it just won't even try to get in the new.
If you look inside the location of the plastic and the connection poinys are different.

Your new switch is definitely not correct for a 68 Corvette. Try to send it back if you can. Lou.

Most catalogue houses are clueless regarding 1968 parts ( even worse early vs late ) most of them list parts as 68 - 82 or 68/69 & is a bunch of BULLSHITOWSKI. Over the past 40 years & two 1968's, I can't tell you how much time & money I spent returning WRONG parts !!!

Where did you get it from ? If Lectric Limited has them, I would trust them first !!

After calling and having "photos" requested it sounds like the inside is clocked wrong and just defective. They are going to send me a new one 🎉 . This freaking 68 and all its part issues have driven me insane. Some of it isn't terrible, its a little but of extra elbow grease or modifying the area slightly. Thanks everyone. I had slowly started to think I was the crazy one. Especially since this is listed as 68 specific.

Those repop parts are bad. There was another thread a year back with the same issue. Some of them are just 68 Camaro repops they rebrand and a 689 vette switch and they are different, wont work....go on ebay and look for a NOS Gm part. Its gonna cost about $100 but its original, it will work and it will last 50 years. The wiper switch isw th esame way. A repop one will last about 3 to 5 cycles of the switch before it breaks

A Corvette 68 switch has the light bulb holder cast into the body. I do not know if any other Chevy cars had that type of switch.
Does Lectric Limited have new 68 ignition switches? $100 would be cheap for an OEM switch. Many years ago I needed one and one small Corvette dealer wanted $180 for an OEM one. I finally found one cheaper somewhere else.
Aren't replacement headlight switches bad also? I know power window switches are another one that I heard are bad also. Lou.

I just looked at that original and might end up getting it also.(An original can't hurt to have) After getting another. It was also wrong big surprise. So I ended up calling around. I won't be getting a repro one. I went with a keyless ignition part from speedway motors. It's universal, but man those guys are something else when it comes to customer service. Its like going to chick fil a for a car. So I'm going to wire it up when I get back from vacation with the kids and see how it looks/works. I appreciate all the the help.

Thanks,

Matt

There was someone here last fall that bought one and had to move terminals because it was made for a different car... I keep telling you guys, these big distributors cut corners to make a buck, they do not care one whiff about us or our cars.
