Default Carpet installation

What would be a inexpensive tool to make the holes for the seats and seat belts. Thanks

I used a MAPP torch, vise-grips, and a piece of 1/2" copper pipe.

That’s how I plan to do it. Seen it done in vids and on hot rod shows.

Hello,

At least on 68-72 cars the front 'foot' of the seat mounting tracks extends forward so it is seen when in the car.
St.Louis cut a small 'tab' to cover the foot and bolt.
It's a nice little detail.

Regards....

that's exactly what i did.. the rails are mounted direct to floor. I used OEM to compare as well. I did an ACC carpet install and comparison here.

If you want a nice looking installation, spend some time reading some of the posts that Forum Members have provided. You will learn a ton of tricks and the job will go 1,000 times easier. My favorite was leaving the new cARPET IN A HOT CAR so that it will be more pliable, also a small inexpensive pencil soldering iron works best for the holes. Buy at least 4 awls to locate holes for seats, belts, and other items. A new good pair of scissors is a must. Go slow, Good Luck.

The "STEP Drill Bit" is the wonder of Carpet installing. Use one whenever you need to make a hole, the Step drill Bits will not catch a thread and pull it out or get twisted up in it.

I like leaving the carpet in the car to get hot as will and still use a heat gun as needed to get the detailed areas. I kept several heavy pieces to hold the carpeting in place and clamps to hold it on the vertical surfaces while the contact cement dries.

The fact that we share information on working on C3 Corvettes really is a great thing. I learn so much from this Forum! The amount of knowledge here is amazing to say the very least. Thank you all for participating in the Corvette Forum!

Here's the video version of the hot pipe hole. I used a screw for the alignment.

Leaving the carpet for a day or several in the hot car is a great tip, too!
