Default Tires and wheels

I put some new wheels on car,cut 1 spring off the front springs, and even put 235-60-15 and the car is sitting to low now, even though I do like the fender just above tire,1 finger gap,but now clearance the nose and the road,I only have about 2 inches at the most, ground clearance,I don’t even think that putting back the 255-60-15,but that’s much taller if any,so curious if I could go with like a 225-75-15,that would be a taller tire and probably give me the ground clearance and still fit snug at fender, these are 8.5 inch wheels,I know that’s a odd size tire, but would it work. Thanks

I full coil is typically too much, ive cut many and usually 1/2 to maybe 3/4 coil was plenty... typically taking off 1/2" of the spring length gives 1" of front end drop, one full coil can drop the front 2.5"-3"

You may need to start with a new set of coils or add a spacer under the coils

Yea,that sounds like a better option than replacing tires, never used a spacer before,do they fit between the coil,or fit at top or bottom, and do you have to remove spring to put in.but think that will give me the height I need. Thanks

yes they go right on the bottom of the spring... they snap on a bit but adding just a few drops of an adhesive a few hours before install helps keep them in place through reinstalling the springs

I cut too much when I tried to lower my car and had to buy the spacers that Golfobsessed recommended. I have since installed QA1 coilovers and still have the spacers. Message me your address and I'll send them to you

I purchased coil spring spacers off of Ebay. Very inexpensive and enables you to dial in ride height perfectly.
they go under the spring. Yes you need to drop out the A arm again. No glue required.

Hello,

A couple of things:

The 225-70-15 tire is 1.55" taller than the 235-60-15. So it would raise the car's front height about 3/4".

Are you 'clocking' the spring in the lower a-arm sloped pocket? You should be able to see the cut end of the coil through the small hole in the pocket. This gives you a consistent measurement as you move the spring around after you cut it.

Regards....

I hate to challenge but have cut and installed many corvette front springs and have always indexed at the top... according to Eaton Spring they say to index at the top pocket... drop a screw down the hole and trun till the top of the spring till it hits the screw and back off just a touch.

I've done juat this on many corvettes... 6 in the past 6 years with great success using the Eaton Spring cut to drop method.
I have also searched this many times on the forum and have always read top, a quick search will show dozens of threads on indexing front spring... also according to some postes the AIM book even says index at the top.

I dint know how imperative it actually is but everything I've ever read says top pocket and its always served me well.

It's the top hole for indexing. The bottom hole is just a water drain hole.

If glue was required, would you sniff if before or after the installation?

Yeah but when you drop it to much by cutting to much spring and then put a spacer on the bottom , You are going to have 1 stiff ride, ask me how I know
