vin research
You can get a copy of the original shipping information from NCRS.
Knowing the vin can be the first piece of the puzzle.
For example:
The VIN derivative is stamped on the engine pad and the transmission case. That info will be good start in determining if the car's current engine/transmission are what were in the car when it left St Louis.
It's possible to look at the forward side of the driver's side front wheel well and determine if it appears that the car had transistor ignition originally.
It's also possible to look at the back side rear valance panel for hints as to whether this car left the factory with side exhaust.. The vin sequence number will be a clue whether the car was even 'late' enough to have the side exhaust option.
The red line on the tach can also be a clue as to what the original engine was.
And there's more.
The Trim Tag rivet to the drivers side a pillar will indicate the cars original paint color and the interior color.
So, not a nice long list but still a vital piece of information.
Good Luck!
Regards.....
