Question for the masses. Has anyone installed one of these coolant expansion tanks in their c3? I have a 1980 and my plastic tank just got cracked and ran across this when googling a new one. Wondering if they install well and have an interference. The listing says it’s made for 77L-82 vettes.
I found it on eBay. What does it do, other than cost 3 times as much as the plastic tank, and make it impossible to check the coolant level without opening?

Mr. Ray of sunshine over here! It’s just different and I was curious, if anyone had bought one before and installed it…and for their opinion on it.
140 bones doesn’t seem too crazy for an interesting part under the hood.
I have an earlier style one. It’s very obvious that they make a lot of expansion tanks for various vehicles (I think you can guess where.)
When I first bought it the thing fit horribly. The cap was so far recessed in I couldn’t open it, the mounting holes were nowhere near lined up with the inner fender, and didn’t fit the contour of it either.
I ended up messaging the seller. They made and sent me a new one for free with the dimensions I supplied. No issues since then, but man what a headache. I do like the look of it over a dirty or yellowed original one though.

Yea that does look good! And I guess I’ll keep my fingers crossed that they got the dimensions figured out. I actually just figured “what the heck” and ordered one out of curiosity. We’ll see!
So I just purchased the tank above and installed it. When I received it, it has poor packaging and the inlet neck was bent up against the tank. I told the seller and am hoping to hear a positive response back. But in the meantime I used a plastic wedge to bend it back into place and get it installed. The holes lined up pretty perfectly and I used the original speed nuts to install it. The fluid sight is probably too high but I do like the way it looks and it feels solid. My original plastic one got discolored over the years and the replacement plastic one I bought developed a crack that leaked after a couple years. I’m kinda liking this replacement for $140.
A quick search on eBay will get ya to the product. Haven’t put a mile on the car since but figured I’d follow up.
