Does anyone know if I can buy reproduction rear Astro vent plenum doors? I’ve seen the seal kits around but no doors. Mine are a rusty mess. I’m afraid if I dissolve the rust, there won’t be much left.
The vacuum actuator still works. At least I’ve got that going for me.
I soaked mine in a tray filled with CLR for a few days and all the rust was dissolved and they looked like new. If yours aren’t heavily corroded to the point of having holes in them, I would recommend that approach. Otherwise, there are folks who part out these cars but you’ll be faced with the chance of getting some that are in need of refurbishment anyway.
There are Corvette Salvage Retailers that sell old parts, that may not be available from the large restoration vendors. Use Google to get their phone numbers. Good Hunting.
Update: I striped the metal pieces in a vinegar bath, filled and sanded any holes, got a new seal kit and had my husband 3D print new plastic "hinge" pieces for me. It turned out great. The original vacuum actuator still works so I reinstalled it with a new stainless hard line for the section behind the passenger seat up to the center console. Hot tip: I ordered the 6ft SS line from Grainger, had it delivered to the store and didn't have to pay shipping.
Is there a bank for 3D printing file somewhere? I'd be happy to upload mine.
3D printed parts Printed parts painted and riveted on New seal kit from zip
THAT IS AMAZING!
Mine were busted and I started carving them out of an aluminum L shaped block. Thankfully I found a decent used system but those look great.
I also need the metal line that goes under the carpet. Thanks for the tip on where to get it.
very nice, i had mine 3d printed also.
Is the SS line from Grainger the correct diameter inside and out? do you have the part number?
thanks for all the info and pics - i just restored my vents as well.
The inside diameter could be bigger but I didn't want to risk kinking it. There's a lot of 90º bends and I had no issues bending the chunky .06 ID.
I am in the middle of a dash harness replacement so I can't fire the car up to test but it holds vacuum and when I take my finger off the end of the SS line, the doors open. So, correct enough for me...I hope.
Thanks for the tip i ordered some.
im sure i can figure all this out but being that you did this already
is 6 foot the perfect length or did you have to cut it shorter?
did you hand bend or use a bender?

mine is totally gone so ill be following your pic
thanks
I used the full 6 feet without cutting. I bent it by hand around whatever: can of spray paint--any cylinder you have around that's the size bend you are going for.
Here's two more pics so you can get an idea from start to end.
Start of hard line. Inserted into a flex line from the controller.
End of the hard line on top of the passenger rear wheel well. Inserts into a flex line that leads to the vacuum actuator.
