Ooh - I like the magnet idea - one of those pickup magnets on a metal extension. I'm guessing the object has fallen into a constricted pocket and simply has to be lifted out at some sort of angle. But the string is lifting it at the strong angle or from the wrong end or something causing it to jam against the constriction. Maybe a magnet would lift it at the right angle to clear whatever construction... just a thought.
