Does anyone have any ideas where I can purchase a set of the rubber grommets that mount in the battery box and the battery cables pass through?
I have checked with all the vendors on line and I can’t find them anywhere.
Lectric Limited does manufacture the battery cables with the correct grommets, however they will not sell the grommets as a separate item.
Its even posted on their website with instructions that they won’t sell parts for their assemblies and don’t even call them to ask.
Hello OCB,
Lectric Limited.
It looks like they're included on their battery cables.
Will they sell them separately????
That's another story.
Regards....

I found some grommets at Mc Master Carr that will work.
Drilled hole diameter is 1 5/8” which is what the hole size is through the battery box.
The cable measures 5/8” diameter however the grommet ID hole measures 7/8”.
So I can use these grommets and for a tight fit through the inside hole I can use a layer of shrink tubing over the cable for a good seal.
I did call Lectric Limited and inquired about the grommets.
I was told they have them made for only their use, they would not sell them individually and they would not disclose their vendors name.
I also called American Autowire.
They do sell the grommets and have them listed in their website PN 500187, however they show they are for a drilled hole size of 1 3/4” and the inside hole diameter is 7/16”.
The tech told me that these are made specific for the C3 Corvette battery cables and should be the correct fitment.
I ordered a set from both Mc Master Carr and a set from American Autowire and I’ll see which set fits the best and report back.
I received the grommets from McMaster Carr.
They are really nice and are a perfect fit into the oem battery holes where the cables exit the battery compartment.
The inner hole is way to big for the battery cable and it would take a lot of shrink tubing layers to get any type seal between the cables and the grommet.
So not going to work.
But wait!!!
The outside diameter of the marine grade 1/0 gauge battery cables measure 5/8”.
The inside diameter of my new heater hose is 5/8” and the heater hose outside diameter looks about right.
Lets see???
Looks like a perfect fit, perfect seal, and this makes a perfect grommet.
I’ll cut a 1 1/2” to 2” length of the 5/8” heater hose, slide it with the cable through the McMaster Carr grommet add a little gasket sealant to keep the hose and grommet together and it will be better than new.
Once I receive the battery cable grommets from American Autowire, I’ll see which works better and report back.

OCB, It sounds like your plan to use the McMaster Carr grommets will work.
As for the American Autowire, if your 1/0 cable is 5/8" and their grommet inner hole is 7/16", are you just planning to drill out the hole to make it big enough for your cable and enlarge the battery box hole enough so the 1-3/4" outside diameter fits?
I'm facing the same situation as you since I plan to upsize both of my battery cables to work with a higher capacity altermator...
I’m waiting to see what the actual configurations are on the grommets from American Autowire.
When I talked with their tech support representative he told me they are the same grommets they install on their reproduction battery cables and they haven’t had any complaints about any differences in the hole sizes in the battery box and their grommets even though they show the grommets are for 1 3/4” holes and my holes are 1 5/8” holes.
If their grommets fit in my battery box holes then my plan is to drill the inside diameter hole of the grommet to 5/8” for my larger diameter cables.
I really don’t want to enlarge the holes in the battery box, but I will if the AA grommets are the better way to go all around.

I'll be waiting to read what method you end up going with so I can come up with a plan (AFTER confirming my cable and battery box hole diameters)...
Just read this thread. Amazing where we hit roadblocks messing with these cars. Would not think correct battery cable grommets would be unobtanium lol. Curious to see the American Autowire grommets.
I still have the original battery cable that came from the factory on my 73.
The cable diameter is 7/16”, so if the American Autowire grommets fit the battery box hole size and have the inner hole size of 7/16”, they would be the perfect grommet for the factory size battery cables.
I am running the larger gauge marine cable which is what is causing me the issues.
That and wanting everything to be perfect.
Just a quick update on the American Autowire battery cable grommets.
I called American Autowire this morning because they haven’t sent me a shipping notification yet.
Their customer service representative told me they are currently out of stock but he shows they are in the process to manufacture them and he will call me with their production date.
