Hello,
Looking at the 71 AIM, ( UPC1 Doors) Sheet K7, it appears that there is just one Lock Unit Item #9. No left or right.
However, the key is drawn with unusual detail showing the shape of the key and the the 'teeth' pointing down.

Someone, probably named Bubba, installed the lock upside down. I wanna say that on my 73 there was no “keyway” in the fiberglass whole to ensure the lock is installed with the cuts going down. The working area around the lock is tiny and hard to get lit up, when trying to install the lock and it’s associated parts.
Hello,
The original lock cylinder has 4 'tabs' and the original fiberglass door skin hole as 4 'tabs'.
This post shows a way to restore the cylinder hole if the tabs are screwed up.
The original cylinder had a small gasket under it similar to the gasket under the door handle latch.
Regards....
