Default build sheet

Guess that means 56 years ago this one rolled out. Surprised how well the build sheet held up.

Mine is still there in 1 piece. Going to wait until next years regional & nationals. Then I am going to gently get it off or cut the tank.

Thanks

Hello 70,

That's a good looking build sheet.

That is one great looking buildsheet and you're fortunate its in one piece.

The Corvette Order Copy is a sales document vs. either the chassis or body broadcast copy which are actual build documents, all of which, as you see are presented in portrait format. Your fellow C2 and early C3 enthusiasts see these style documents unsed until 1973 when a landscape format buildsheet was found on gas tanks. In 1973, the factory glued a copy of the manifest to the tank. The manifest, also referred to as a build sheet is a build document or assembly document that combines both body and chassis broadcast codes for vehicle options. Its those codes that separate an early buildsheet from the late-model C3 buildsheets. I've attached a copy for your reference.

This is a buildsheet for a 1978 Pace Car, fully loaded. Note the range of option codes for suspension, eingine, trim, etc.

I replaced the tank last summer and found it taped in a bag. The drive in that car on the Blue ridge parkway around Cherokee NC was spectacular. Checked some boxes for me for sure.

The NCRS keeps data on zone & dealer numbers. It appears your #s are 7 & 291. If you have the name and address of the seller on the sheet and would like to add that to their data, you can enter it yourself on their website. Nice find.

Yes, it did hold up very well for being on the tank! Usually, the best preserved copies are the ones that are occasionally left between the speedometer and tachometer. You might want to look there if you haven’t already… You may get lucky and find a second copy!

One other neat item is that it has both identification numbers for the car. One was assigned when the job to assemble the car started (but before the VIN was issued) and ran from 1 to 500. This would be written on various body panels of the car as they were pulled for assembly. You can almost always find it on the outside of the passenger footwell (behind the stone shield), on the outside of the bulkhead facing the fuel tank, and usually on the metal bulkhead behind the driver seat… But there were other locations as well. The second number was assigned after the VIN was issued for the car. It also ran from 1 to 500, but corresponded to the last three digits of the VIN (if the last three digits of the VIN are UNDER 500) or the last three digits of the VIN MINUS 500 (if the last three digits of the VIN are OVER 500). You should be able to tell pretty quickly which number is which.

Very cool car… A 1970 LT-1 convertible is a great car to have!

I posted this years ago… If you know the zone number, this will give you a general idea of where the car was sold. Zone 7 had its corporate offices located in Dallas, Texas. Going further from the NCRS site, the original dealership name that sold your car will fall alphabetically between Heyl Motor Company (293) and Hooker Vandergriff (327).

The following are a list of zonenumbers attached to the corresponding zonename which should be accurate for most late 60s - early 70s applications. If you don't have any idea where the car was sold originally, but DO have the zoneand dealer numbers, then this should help you narrow the search somewhat. Keep in mind that some zones covered a very large geographical area while others were quite small.
