Need Muffler Recommendation

Last year when I got my 74 it came without a spare tire or mount. I believe it was because the previous owner put mufflers on that were too big. Since I value a spare more I had my shop delete the mufflers and I installed the spare. Unfortunately NV changed the law last Oct. All cars after 68 must have mufflers. I plan on having my shop install narrow inexpensive glasspack type simply because they will fit and smog is due next month. I will upgrade at the end of the year. In the mean time I don't want to drive around sounding like a rice burner. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive piece that will serve the purpose and still sound good? Thanks

While I’m also dealing with a home renovation mississauga project at the same time, I’ll likely upgrade the exhaust at the end of the year. A simple glasspack muffler would work well for your situation. Brands like Cherry Bomb or Thrush are inexpensive, easy to install, and usually fit well in tighter spaces. If you want a deeper and quieter sound, choose a longer glasspack (around 22–26 inches) rather than a short one, since shorter ones tend to sound louder and raspier. It should keep the car legal for the muffler requirement while avoiding that high-pitched “rice burner” sound until you upgrade later.
