Default Two questions

I have a 1971 small block Chevy 350 and was curious what is the best connection for the TCS on the driver side. It looks like it would take a blade connection but very hard to access. Is there something I’m missing? I looked at several searches with no real results.

Second question, I was replacing the battery today and found two vacuum hoses leading to the battery compartment without any apparent place to connect them. Anybody have a clue what that might be?

im sorry the TCS abbreviation is escaping me could you clarify? as for the 2 hoses id assume Battery vent and drain hoses- most battery's need a vent line and it also works as an overflow so they tend to be routed out of the bay

Hello,
This is a typical connection for the CEC solenoid on a 71 Quadra-jet .
Since the original battery was vented to atmosphere (and it being in the interior) there were 2 'manifolds' on the battery that each had a rubber hose leading out of the battery compartment to vent under the car.
Regards......

I could be wrong but I don't think that's a TCS (Transmission Control Spark) solenoid, its on the pass side typically? What I see in the pics is that idle stop solenoid I think its called.

That is the CEC (combined emission control) solenoid that is unique to 1971.

Default Two questions answer

Thanks to all I believe it was part of the TCS system and it is , kind of. It is actually the CEC solenoid on the drivers side, and from what I now understand works in conjunction with TCS and is unique to the 1971 L48.

Hello,
Chevrolet issued a booklet dealing with the 71 CEC system.
It's quite helpful.
