Default C3 Corvette Letters PAL Acorn Nuts

Does anyone know where you can get the PAL or Acorn nuts for the rear Corvette letters? I know you can use the speed nuts but trying to match the NCRS judging guide. Can you use the same gas door emblem acorn nuts which are reproduced? Thanks for any suggestions.

There was a thread on this within the last 6-9 months - have you done a forum search? (no snark intended) I'm kinda rushed to find and link to it.

Amazon will get you the closest to what you're looking for.
And you're not paying a premium either for specialized fasteners

Alan,

Good find, but I think that size (#10-24) is going to have a hole that is too large for the 1/8” diameter pins on the back of the C-O-R-V-E-T-T-E letters. The 1/8” diameter roughly equates to a #6, but that might even be too large. I have some NOS retainers and the hole is small; I think that I measured it at 3/32”… AFTER I removed the sealant. Yes, there is a red sealant covering the hole and the retainer itself is black.

I looked for a correct replacement at one time, but I didn’t have much luck.

Regards,

Stan Falenski

Well that's because it was on the NCRS forum not here!

I believe the gas door emblem acorns are too large. The bottom line from the NCRS thread is that they are unavailable. Closest is a discontinued part from AMK (inventory still being sold). The guy bought these and said they are a bit small but worked.

If you still have your old ones, I'd wire wheel them and reuse.

The '72 AIM cites part number 9420202 for the rear letters; gas door is 446618 (which is probably the same nut as the 446617 below). I found this in the 1974 Standard Parts Catalog - a 1/8" nut

Joe,

Glad those worked out for you. They look close (even the stamped opening underneath looks like the originals), but the physical size appears to be larger. The originals are 3/8” high with a 7/16” hex base. The opening hole in the bottom is 3/32” as mentioned. Also as mentioned, there is a sealer applied to the opening as well.

Regards,

Stan Falenski

I recently searched every vendor and manufacturer over several weeks on the internet to try a find a set of these nuts that would fit the CORVETTE lettering on the rear tail section.
I ended up using my originals and installed them with red LockTite.
There was a couple that I needed to carefully bend the inner prongs back into position using a jeweler’s screwdriver to get them to catch onto the lettering studs.

Photos of NOS nuts… Dimensions listed above are 3/8” high, 7/16” hex base, 3/32” hole (circular part of opening). Nuts are black (looks to be painted). Sealer has a red coating, but the base appears to be gray.

Hello,
Here's a photo of the PAL nuts used for the Crossed Flags on the the gas door.
Mid-Jan. 71.
I don't know if there was sealer on the posts or not. Sorry.
Regards...

Note the studs on the flag emblem are quite different than those on the rear panel letters....
