I am attempting to remove and replace the upper windshield corner chrome parts on my 1979 Corvette. Those things seem to be glued down with some sort of cement or something. Even though I am replacing them I still don’t want to destroy the old ones during removal.
Does anyone happen to have the secret to getting them off that doesn’t include a 4 foot prybar and a giant sledgehammer? I have attached a picture of the part I am trying to remove just in case I called it the wrong thing
Thanks for the advice. 👍🤩.
Hello,
I believe you'll find there are 2 mounting screws that face the upper edge of the windshield.
These are often hidden by the glass and sealer.
You need to be VERY, VERY careful removing these because its easy to crack the windshield while unscrewing them.
Have you found these?
If you have... then???

No I have not found those 2 screws but now I know what I am looking for. Thank you very much. 👍
Hello,
The long thin strip must be removed before there's access to the screws.
And, the 2 pieces of trim on the a-pillar mud be removed before the long thin strip can be removed.
Not easy!!!

Thanks for the picture. That helps a lot. I didn’t realize that the top trim piece needed to be out of the way as well. 👍
There may be some sealer that was applied at the factory or by the previous owner to stop any water from getting in the cockpit. If you have a year specific AIM and Chevrolet Service Manual there may be more detailed removal instructions. Like others have said, it easy to crack the windshield. On the vertical chrome piece (at the drivers window) the screws were rusted and I replaced them. Unfortunately, I went overboard tightening the top screw and caused a crack in my windshield.
I had my original corner pieces re-chromed. I had to remove the windshield to get those forward facing phillips head screws out. There was no other way.
I did find some minor rust in the upper corners of the windshield frame so I had time to repair the windshield frame while my corner's were off at the chromer.
upon installation, I used little hex head screws to replace the original phllips head screws just in case there is a next time.
