I have a 1970 LT-1 that is in very nice condition but like all older things it needs a little work.
since I bought the car I've been running down the little issues now I'm working on the courtsey lights.
#1 Courtsey fuse is blown
#2 before I replace the fuse I want to find why it may have blown ( I bought the car w/o courtsey lights or wipers) the door switches seem like the most likely culprit so I dove in and the front switches (alarm I believe) come out and are working properly the rear switches (door ajar) will unthread but thats it so I need some wisdom here please. Is there a way to get at the back of these switches to check the wires? I only want to replace the fuse once. I don't know how I'm going to bend this old body to even do that. By the way the wipers work now, I live in Portland so the wipers need to work.
Hello,
Wow!!!
That looks like a beauty!!!
The four switches can be CAREFULLY unscrewed so they can be pulled out far enough so the wire connections can be seen and worked on.
Use a small open end wrench on the switches' hex shaped shoulder.
Regards.....
You should be able to unscrew the switch and get several inches of slack in the wires. If you remove the panel just behind the door that runs up the door jam, the wiring harness should be there. It might be partly covered by the carpet. This diagram is from the 69 AIM page J291, but a lot of the 70 is almost identical. Taking that panel off might be kind of a pain, but almost everything on these old cars can be that way. I have had mine more than 50 years and have removed almost every piece at least twice.
