Hello,
I've recently noticed 2 references to replies based on Google AI.
Is that source more prevalent here at this time than I realize?
I'm very aware of how FAR behind the times I operate.
But ??? .
I use Chat GPT fairly regularly but I have found you cannot believe everything it says. I look at it as a glorified search engine that can point me in the direction of the information I need. It can be a significant time saver, but keep in mind that about 30% of the time it is wrong or just makes stuff up, and there is never any mention that is might not be sure of its answer.
With that said, I have never used it to find information for this forum. That kind of defeats the purpose. We are here to share our accumulated knowledge, and in fact I would expect this is the kind of resource that AI accesses to formulate it's answers.
Fascinating world we live in, isn't it?

AI is far from intelligent...at this stage in its development it scours the internet and takes in all the information that it can find on a given subject and averages the answer ...If you know a certain subject very well, try asking Ai about the subject.... you will most likely get a general answer that has about a 50% chance of being correct. Most of the jackasses that spout off on facebook about car subjects are factored into these answers. There are more idiots out there with opinions than there are factual answers so it stands to reason the answers are going to be mostly wrong, and it will get worse as there becomes more incorrect answers out there averaging into the answer....AI is only good for finding information ( not answers) or making cool pictures...I would not ask it for an answer that would have me building an engine or looking for answers to health concerns...
Hello R R, ".AI is only good for finding information ( not answers)"
This is what I'm thinking too.
But will that, or is that, changing?
I guess so.
Regards...
I like to use ti to help me find stuff in the AIM manual as GM did a horrible job as far as I'm concerned putting things where I think they should be. LOL
I did just use Chat GPT to help me out with doing a sound system in the 80. I told it what I was planning on using and it let me know that my choices were not a good fit together.if gave me some other options to think about.
I use many different LLM models both in my line of work, and my personal hobbies. I can confidently say that the information from Alan and the rest of the CF community has been significantly more helpful than the AIs.
That being said, these models are getting better and better every single day. For my coding side hobbies, these models are now giving me code and identify optimization techniques that are the 90% answer. They're requiring very little tweaking on my part, and this is coming from someone who has been coding since he was 8 years old (I'm turning 44 this year).
As for the car help, Google's NotebookLM has been pretty helpful. It's multi-modal, which means that it can give me feedback on both imagery and text data. For us, that means that I've given it my 1971 Factory Assembly Manual, electrical drawings, and other digital information to base its answers off of. Does it do a good job of answering technical questions? lol, no, not really.. but it does give me a 25% answer that sets me down on a path to figure out the rest.

I think once it becomes self aware and can actually think it might be able to discern the internet garbage from the truth, but as long as its getting information from the internet its doomed to be the retarded little brother that likes to lick windows
Its just like the nightly news....people that arent willing to go find out the truth about their political leaders rather then just what the "paid for" news tells them to think

I find that AI makes mistakes when asked detailed questions about C2 corvettes, not sure about C3. Don't take anything it tells you as fact, double check the answer if it's important.
In the case of all things C3, AI is only good if we're referring to Alan71's Intelligence on the subject. ;-) Thanks for all you share with our community.
One thing that annoys me is when me people paste in AI responses into their forum response. I come here for advice from real people. At least in this forum, there's people with corvette experience that's older than me and I'm not exactly young.
For auto repair advice, AI is not all that great because of the "garbage in" problem. I still find myself using AI chatbot's frequently to work through issues but it's probably better than going to Facebook for an answer but still nothing like using the search on this forum.

I was about to post this exact statement.
Asking AI for any technical insight has been proven to be shaky at best. Whenever I see a post saying "this is what AI says" or "AI suggests this", I tune it right out.

Perhaps Alan71 can take a little solace from the fact that most of this post may just as well be in Greek as far as I'm concerned!😄 As a technological dinosaur I wouldn't know where to start with using AI or the Chat stuff😱. We met s lady on a recent Corvette Club weekend here in France who had come over from California - she virtually lived by AI and Chat GPT (no pun intended!), right down to the fact that she rarely "drove' herself in her (electric😱 car, it did that for her! All somewhat scary we thought.
Hello Stephen,
I really do know about being a tech Luddite.
I've never owned a cell phone.
A few years ago we were at a resort and saw a couple taking photos of each other.
I asked If they'd like me to take a photo of both of them together.
They said yes, showed me the button to push, and handed me the phone.
They stood together and I held the phone up as I'd seen them doing.
They then pointed out I had the phone aimed at me!
Regards....

Survival of the fittest is coming and hes carrying a giant sledge hammer....these techies are in for a sad day.....relying on technology is like trusting your 8 year old kid to make the correct decisions
There's a thread on here talking about building an engine according to AI. I just about threw up reading it.
What kills me is guys dont realize AI can only learn by scraping the internet for data, and we all know how much incorrect info is floating around online. Still, they're disregard actual human opinions and experiences, and side with AI.
My favorite are those who use it for coding. These guys and their "vibe code" have turned online infrastructure into the wild west with how unsecure some of their garbage code is.
Notice the huge uptick in data breaches? Notice all the backdoors being found in major company sites? It's not by accident.
