I was unable to reattach my center console to the transmission tunnel brackets. I didn’t realize this was necessary when I installed it initially so I’m going to remove both the shifter and e brake console again and ensure the nuts are present to receive the screws. I have some ideas for reinstallation but does anyone have a tried method to be able to locate the correct screw positions. It’s a new console so there were no holes there to use as a guide.

(Added) PB may be right....I thought you were asking about the studs on the bottom of the bezel.
I believe its possible to reach in from the sides to install the 2 nuts that tighten the center gauge bezel in place on the front of the shifter console.
NOT EASY but doable.

Just trying to find an easy way to ensure the placement of the screws go through the console into the nut on the console bracket. Unless someone knows an easier way, I’ll probably try and place tape along where the bottom of the console is and mark the length from there to the nuts. I was able to attach the two screws that mount the console to the bezel but the side screws missed the nuts when I installed the consoles. The console moves around a lot when I shift gears and I realized it wasn’t attached at the transmission tunnel. I obtained an AIM manual and realized I missed some key attachment points. I was just wondering if anyone found a certain way of locating the nuts after the console is put in place.

The screws labeled 3 & 5 are arranged to “u” nuts that will move a little bit. I used an awl to find the “u” nut hole for the side screws. The ones closest to the gas tank are hard to get in because the sea bottom is in the way. It’s going to be hard, maybe find an old console on eBay fro a cheap price so you can transfer the holes to your new console.
I bought a CA front console.
There is something holding up the rear so I could not get the screws #3 to line up with the mounting plate. I plan on taking it back out in the fall to fix it.
I replaced the nuts in the front with coupling nuts which made it easier to get my socket on them, you don’t have to over torque them.
As wrong as it might be, the only thing holding my parking brake cover is the bolt in the back of it. Between the anchoring provided by the center gauge bezel down onto the front of the console and the screws holding the shift plate, nothing else is being held, and believe me, everything is mighty tighty. One of these days I might try to install the #3 screws...

These parts didn't fit great from the factory. Add 50 years of age, POs doings, and questionable aftermarket parts and you have a challenge. In order to get my center console on my 68 to fit reasonably well I had to loosen every screw from the windshield wiper switch all the way down to emergency brake console and then with a lot of wiggling and slowly tightening the screws it finally came together.
