There is no need to knock other forums. Many of the members there, are members here(myself included).A tight knit group they are, and they accepted me, and others with no trepidation. After a year there I decided the small fee was well worth it.Some of the more experienced and knowledgable contributors were offered memberships by contributions (unsolicited I might add) from other members. To me this speaks volumes of the content of character of the members.Remember we all share a common interest, our corvettes, and to retreat into pettiness is something we should avoid.
Naturally sponsors will gravitate to this site because it encompasses all years and has a much larger and more attractive venue. The small fee to concentrate on your specific vehicle may be worth it.You don't have to relinquish your time here to do that.

After a full week of membership have determined my posting there will be limited.
In C3 General, I asked for tips on removing the brake booster and they moved it to C3 Handling! Just not to sure what that has to do with "Handling."
I'm also a member of C3VR. Close knit group is a good description. As for your post being in "Handling", that will make it easier for someone later on to find it for their reference. Handling includes brakes, steering, and suspension. Sounds like a logical place for it. We have several different categories for easier reference. Our C3 General is kinda like an OT thread, Vette related "stuff".
Everyone is welcome, no bashing!

Excellent response. I couldn't agree more. I see a lot of the same faces there that I see over here too. I try to help out where I can whether that's financially or knowledge-wise. There's so much information available there as well as a fully functional search engine.
I'm a lifetime member over there as I fully expect to be needing knowledge about my 74 for the rest of my life or its. Its a great site with great folks. Check it out & see what you think.
I am the president of the other site you're all talking about. And my reply is not meant to be an ad for the site. I just want to respond to the question of "why would people pay?" by explaining the reason behind the fee.
I imposed the $10 fee for a couple of reasons... first, as mentioned by another person above, sponsorship is hard to come by for a small site. Corvette Forum has thousands of members partly because they appeal to ALL Vette enthusiasts, not just C3, and partly becuase they were first on the net with a Corvette themed forum (kind of like why Amazon.com and Ebay are so huge now). So CF can easily get sponsors based on their huge number of members and visitors. Second, the fee causes people to make a stronger decision to join or not. If someone is willing to pay, then they are comitted to being a active contributor (as far as posting and reading the forums). When the site was free, about 8% of the total membership visited the site at least once per month. Now 71% of the total membership visits the site at least once per month. I'm no math wiz, but that's a huge difference!
Also, please don't think I am knocking Corvette Forum... becuase I'm not. I use CF too! It is a great resource for getting answers, espcially if you want answers FAST! Because of the huge number of members here, and the frequency at which people are reading posts... you can have an answer to a post within minutes! That can be really useful if you are working on your Vette and need advice quickly.
Before I imposed the $10 fee, I sent an email to all the members asking their opinion on the matter. Almost every one of the people that complained and said they wouldn't pay, were in that 92% of the membership that didn't visit the site at least once per month. I can't blame them! If I didn't visit a site very frequently, I wouldn't pay to be a member, either!
And one last thing... I'm not knocking the C5 Registry, becuase I don't know much about it, but what I do know is that they charge $55 per year ($65 for the first year), so realative to that... 10 bucks ain't so bad.
Thanks for listening.

Reason: left something out
Variety is the spice of life too, Im never opposed to getting more ideas or opinions on a subject, and if there is another quality internet site that offers that, Im definite all for it.

Well said..and I'm a member of both and learn from both. They are both great in their own way. I will continue to use both forums. Even if I have to pay for both someday.
I actually came across CF first when I was looking for information prior to buying "The Toy" but quickly found the volume of posts to be too overwhelming. It was like trying to get a drink of water from a fire hose. Some people like that level of activity, I do not.
The atmosphere at (the forum not to be mentioned here) is much more laid back, like talking to friends at a club meeting or a cruise-in. The technical forums are laid out like the table of contents of a repair manual for easy reference and the events forums are broken out into regions of the country. And bashing or trashing of folks is simply not tolerated. I started out as a free member, then upgraded to the Gold level, then became a LifeTime member because I liked the company there - simple as that.
As Adam mentioned above (provided his post is not censored, or mine for that matter) CF is a great resource when you need an instant answer to something. It is just too bad that the management here is so paranoid and/or closed minded to acknowledge that there are other sources of information out there for our beloved C3 'Vettes.
