Default Reasonably priced radiator for 406 engine?

I am looking for a radiator to cope with a 406 ci, roughly 500hp engine that is going in soon. I am not looking for anything extravagent, or the best money can buy, but really the cheapest one I can find that will fit and do the job.

Can yall give me any recommendations?

Thanks!

The engine installer is worried the stock one might not be up to the duty on Hot summer days, and thinks it would be best to put a new one in.

Fevre, have you used that one and had it fit no problem in a C3?

Thanks!

It fits fine, just a little thinner than the orig in my 73, I have it sitting on the lower supports and bubba'd up a single center bracket to hold it tight against the support with 2 peices of rubber on each upper corner. I also installed dual elec fans so if you are looking use the stock fan i do not think it will give a nice tight fight without some work. It came with a threaded hole for the overflow nipple and it does not come with the fitting, I bought a brass one and am getting a little corrosion. The lower outlet is a little diff orientation than orig so I used a aftermarket universal ribbed hose. It is good quality and welded not epoxied.

BTW I would try the stock one, it might work and save you some dough, just keep an eye on the needle.

I used the same one as Fevre after seeing his car. I have pics of mine on my site.

BTW, they added the overflow nipple (as seen in the first pic in the above link.)

Matt copied me right down to the bubba center bracket. His center bracket is a little 'professional' than mine I have to admit.

Flex-a-lite 220 dual elec, they have gone up in price since I bought mine about $210 now. Think they where $190 when I bought them.

Have heard that used camaro or vette dual fans a nice swap, I need to get dual fans for my formula, that ole single fan don't cut it.

I am using the Griffin 31x19" radiator, it works great with the Flex-alite 210 dual 12" electric fans. The fit is good, no problems. Stock radiator hoses will not work however. I am using the flexible type without issue.

Many people use Ford Windstar dual electric fans. You can pick them up used or new. Joe

You know what.... I just remembered that I used the Griffin universal like Vetdrms and not the Summit one like Fevre. (However, they're almost exactly the same.) Yes, the fans aren't cheap. But the Flex-a-lite is cheaper than the Spal, if that makes a difference.

I had the stk 3 core in my 74 rebuilt into a 4 core. The fit is perfect, no problems. The dual 11" spals are good for 750 hp. Should work for you.

my 460hp 434 is cooled by a stock brass smallblock radiator and dual flex-a-lite fans. works great even in the upper 90's.

I did have a problem this summer tho, wouldn't cool at low speeds. Turns out I had the fans running backwards!
