I recently bought a set of used Hooker header/sidepipes with the slip-in glasspacks. They arrived with the mufflers not in the pipes but I assume they were in there at some point because they have been used. When I try to put them in they go in a few inches and bind up and won't go any farther. Is there a trick to installing these and then getting them back out later? Is the fit so perfect that it would make a machinist drool? I thought there would be a little "play" to allow for the usual crud that builds up inside an exhaust system.
There is an inlet and outlet on the hooker muffler, try turning them around, also rust will play a role in this movie. Try sliding then in and out repeatedly to knock some of the rust off. Once they are run in the tubes they can be a beactch to get in and out
The Hooker glasspacks suck. They have been know to drop a 500 HP big block down to 400 HP.
I would suggest spending the money you saved on used pipes on set of JCL baffles. Love mine and I can still hear the radio and talk while driving (with the top down).

hey general question, Edelbrock told me hookers wont't work with there heads . are they BSing? Also I herd Chrome bb super comps are disco'ed ????
Big block or small block??
I have the Edlebrock RPM heads on my small block with no problems. However, I have heard that their big block heads have raised exhaust ports. That may raise the pipes up enough to hit the frame.

Hooker has new max flow mufflers that are way cheaper then the JCL and flow way more air with great sound. Just came out in November. Check them out online at www.holleynews.com.
FYI anytime you put any headers on raised port heads you run the risk of them hitting the body, steering or other items.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
How do you put the JCL baffles in the pipes do you have to drill holes to hold them in place ?
I have raised port small block heads and while it looks like the Hooker sidepipe headers will clear the frame and body the angled plugs hit the pipes in a few locations so I have to ding them
I want to see flow charts and dyno charts on those Hooker Max Flow inserts. They are VERY sketchy in the press release. I bet they don't work as well as JCLs.
